Standard time shift, Lego & Leaves

Happy extra hour of sleep day.  Believe it or not we were lucky enough to have children that accommodated the time change.  Marlo slept snuggled into me until 9:30am new time and Otis was downstairs playing with Lego.

There are times when I get frustrated about the Lego situation at our house.  It cost a fortune, it is hard to find a storage solution that keeps each set separate, and It really really hurts when I step on it.  I can only imagine how many pieces Marlo is going to get into her mouth.

It isn't until I find something like this ship around the house that I can appreciate Lego and the amazing creativity it allows a child to explore.  I found this ship in Marlo's bed beside me when I woke up this morning.  He told me what kind of ship it was.  I could not repeat the name if I tried, let alone type it so all of you could know what it is called.  Lets just call it another Star Wars battle ship.

Right now the boys are outside cleaning the fall leaves.  The city is coming any day now to pick them from the curb.  It would really suck if we didn't get the leaves to the curb.  We had to bag them up one year and it took us over 25 bags to do so.  Thanks Mom for getting most of it done for us.

Day 70 - Half & Half

Today, Marlo has been home as many days as she was in the Hospital.  Look at the difference.

Beaver's

Otis Joined Beaver's last month.  They meet every Monday, so I thought. I had no idea when we signed him up how involved it is.  There have been a few other events held on other days too.  Unfortunately due to the timing we have not been able to participate in any of the additional activities.  He is really enjoying Beavers.  There are several boys who all know each other in his group which makes it exciting.  A few weeks back we went to a ceremony for the new beavers to the organization.  They held the ceremony outside.  Unfortunately it was pitch black and we could not really see a thing.

Here is a Tid Bit From Wikipedia about it the Ceremony.
A new Beaver is called a "Kit"; a Kit must learn the Beaver Promise, Law, and Motto and go through an investiture ceremony to become an "Eager Beaver". The investiture ceremony officially welcomes the Beaver into the Scouting programme and during this ceremony the Beaver receives a tail, neckerchief, and badges for his uniform.

A five-year-old Beaver is a brown tail, a six-year-old is a blue tail and a seven-year-old is a white tail. The tail is attached to the back brim of the Beaver Hat.

The boys all had fun they made lanterns to put around the fire.  After the ceremony we sat around the camp fire had hot chocolate and sang a few campfire songs.  It was really nice to get out side and be by the fire even if it was for a short time.  It was Marlo's first campfire.  She slept through the whole thing. To bad we didn't have marshmallows.

This past week Otis got to bring Chucky the beaver home.  I guess he is a mascot for their group.  I am not sure if each group has one or not. Chucky is well traveled.  he has come with us out and about and even sleeps with Otis.

On the lighter side of Life

A few nights ago Miranda and I were in the basement, while I tried to print some stuff to get ready for Bailey's pick up day.

Every so often I would here this noise by the  window.  I thought it was the printer.  Eventually Miranda heard it too and asked what it was.  I said the printer, she didn't agree.  Later on I heard the exact noise again and was sure it was not the printer.

I hate little creatures and could/would not get off the couch.  I freaked out and called Dave on his cell phone.  I had know idea he had been sleeping upstairs for over an hour.  He came down very grumpy and could not find anything.  I got off the couch and almost ran up the stairs.  I would have run if i could.

Miranda actually slept down there.  She heard the noise a few more times through out the night.  It was always in the same spot.  I decided Miranda/we should check the window well before we left for the day.  There was a little bunny trapped down there.  We got a basket and a bag and off she went to save the bunny.  There was no way I could climb in there.  Miranda eventually managed to scoop him up and slide him up the wall to get him out.

During all the excitement Miranda and I both forgot she is allergic to Rabbits.  While we were in the car she started to have a reaction.  Her throat narrowed and she was sneezing.  Luckily after a little while it all cleared it self and she was fine.

YAY!!!!  We don't have a mouse in the house.  AND We saved a bunny YAY!!!!!

On a side note:  I didn't realize Otis was using the window well as a toy box.

Excitement

It is really late and I can't sleep.  My mind is racing a mile a minute.  I have an amazing opportunity in front of me.  I can't wait to tell you all about it. For now I will have to leave you with this picture.

Family Day Again..... Yeah!!!!

Otis registers days by who he is with on that day.  This is how we counted down to me being home.  Days that Dave and I are home is called Family day.  Ever since February when we had family day he has been doing this. Today was our first of many family weekends in a row.  It was a very laid back day.  Looking forward to many more.

Wild Flowers

Otis started Soccer at the community centre today.  On our way home we stopped in the park to see when the splash pad would be opening.  To our surprise it opened today.  We didn't have a towel or swim suit but in he went.  On the way home we picked some wild flowers.   This little lamb has been in the lost and found where Dave works. As many strange things, it made it to our house to live.

I am so.........

BORED

For those of you who don't know.  I will be out of a Job at the end of May.  This isn't completely a bad thing as the summer starts.  Otis and I will get to spend the summer together.

The client I work for will no longer be with the company.  The last time my campaign ended I was able to transition to the one I am currently working for.  This time there is no where for me to go.

I am a firm believer in "things happen for a reason" and "things always work out".  Just a little bumpy sometimes.

I have had a few weeks to absorb this information and I am O.K. with it.  In the mean time there isn't much for me to do at work.  I have scheduled my vacation days at the end of each week starting next week.

This week is my last full week of work.  If it would just end already.

The Return of the Xbox

We experienced the red ring of death with our Xbox around New Years.  Lucky for us it was still covered by the warranty.

This is how Otis fell asleep the night we hooked the new system up.  He was talking to Dave 30 seconds earlier. His finger is still on the button.

Puke Puke Poop - Kind of Like - Duck Duck Goose

It has been an interesting 24 hours. There has been more dirty laundry from one day then what we make in a month.

Otis has been down for the count. He could not keep anything down. Dave and I are almost out of clean clothes. There was a point I was catching the puke in my hand so that we wouldn't have to change the sheets again. There is a faint smell of puke all over the house.

This is the first time he has had this type of illness. While he was throwing up he would be crying "stop it" or "No Like"

He is feeling much better today. Our mission today is to collect every smelly bit and burn it.

He almost brought me to tears. I must say though the best part of a sick boy is the constant cuddles.

Wish Us Luck

Update: Dave is now down for the count and I am shortly behind him. The bubbly feeling has begun.

Response:

To the person to Decided My Cat was their Business.

Dear Neighbour,

Have the Balls to leave your name when writing such an insulting letter and find out the whole story.

Yes my cat was out side during the day crying. She cries all day inside or out. If she didn't want to be outside she wouldn't do everything in her power to be outside.

You assumed no one was home during the times she is outside but you were wrong. See what happens when you assume. My husband has injured his knee and has been home the whole time.

She is a wild little cat. I feel as she gets older and fixed she will mellow out.

In your letter you made it sound as if my cat is outside day and night and that is -30 degrees out.

It hasn't gone below -5 yet and she is a cat with fur. A winter coat at that. Animals grow them you know.

We have never left her out overnight and if she were that cold the garage is open to seek shelter.

bottom line is it is NONE of your Business.

Phonecicle

So we lost our cell phone in August. Low and behold it was found at the bottom of the Deep Freeze.
We tore it apart and wiped it dry for five minutes while it thawed. Hooked it up to charge and we were off and running.

Can anyone guess how it got there?

You have two tries and I don't count. Let me just say it was the same person who tried to put a chopstick up the cats butt.

Bored

I think I may have finished reading the Internet. I should probably go back to the beginning and start again.

Progress

So I have had some success this weekend on what I wanted to get done last week. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the Zombie walk. There was even a Wedding at the walk.

Get Otis a hair cut. Check

Buy Canning supplies and make Salsa, Applesauce and Apple Butter. Check

Decorate house for Halloween. Check

The last two things on the list are in progress. Hopefully by the end of the week they too will be done.

There is one tiny thing that may cause this not to happen. We posted our first item on Kijiji. Dave and I decided to sell our spare set of speakers, it was a success.

With the proceeds of the sale, we decided to get the biggest time consumer yet.

My throat is still sore.

Week Come Undone

This is supposed to be a short work week. Why does it feel so long. I had such big non work things planned.

  • Get Otis a hair cut
  • Buy more canning supplies
  • Make apple Butter and apple sauce
  • Can more salsa
  • Catch up on laundry
  • Get outside ready for winter
  • Decorate for Halloween

Guess what I almost got the yard ready for winter and that is it.

This week has got away from us. Late nights at work and a sick little boy have done us in.

Looking forward to the Zombie walk. I tried to post a copy of the poster but no such luck.

I hope the weather is O.K.

I feel Dead

Man,

I took friday off to take care of Otis. He had a fever for a day and a half. He is fine now. I on the other hand, have had a soar throat for a few days (5 to be exact).

I was being stubborn drugged myself up with over the counter stuff and kept on trucking. I was at work yesterday and the pain started to move up to my ear. It felt like it needed to be popped. So I did so and almost collapsed. I completely lost my equilibrium. I wobbled like a drunk to the nearest seat and sat for a while. I made the quick decision it is time to seek medical attention. I just got to the walk in clinic in time.

I have Tonsillitis. TONSILLITIS. I can not believe it. It has been about 15 years since I have had tonsillitis. She said if I had waited a day or so longer there would have been a surgery. ARRRRGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Anyway I have been told to stay home from work for the rest of the week. I have made arrangements at work to get my p.c. delivered to me so I can still get some work done. (Reason # 672 on why I need a work Laptop).

I have taken my horse pills and I am hoping for the best.

Wish me luck

He's BAaAaAack!!!!!!!

Otis is back with minor adjustment time. He has slept through the night for the last two nights and has been quite pleasant. I think he is so happy to be with us.

Dave had a hard time bringing him to home care today. He played strange for a few moments before he finally went into the house. Dave said "it broke his heart", he almost brought him home for the day.

Over the week Otis seemed to have a lot of fun. He learned how to whistle. "hoo hoo".

He was asleep when I got there to pick him up. I was in the room when he woke up. He stood up saw me and sat back down. He sat there a few moments not knowing what to do. I put my arms out to pick him up and he gave me a huge five minute hug. Once I put him down he babbled for about 15 minutes walking around the house telling me what he did.

Before we left I had to get the rocks Otis had thrown in the deep end of my moms pool. Otis came in with me he was shaky at first. By the end of our little swim I had him standing on the edge of the pool holding my hand and jumping in (falling in).

I think this week apart was great for him he hasn't been clinging to me like he did before he went. Dada has become his favorite person. He says "Dada" like the word is going out of style. I am so happy about this because last week he wasn't a big fan of Dada.

I also had a great week, we were able to go out Friday night. I also got a lot of Spring Cleaning done. I still have a bit to go and hope to have it done in time for the Winter.

Another Day in My Life

So on March 24 we were supposed to have the first annual Family Birthday Event. Due to Illness we had to postpone. Both Dave and Otis were under the weather during the week and there was no way we would be able to pull off a party even if everyone was back in good health in time.

Otis and I spent the morning hanging around the house. We were supposed to hook up with Auntie Jas but as usual she doesn't answer her phone. So off thrift shopping we went to our local second hand store Generations. While there Jas found us thrifting away. I had found the find of the week which was a Vacuum Jug From Danish Designer Erik Magnussen. Thanks to little Shawn for the heads up on this jug. I have been looking for a coffee carafe for quite awhile now. I am in love with the Carafe designed by David Douglas for Therm ware. Someday I will find one.

I was very happy with my find and was about to leave when...... dun dun Dunn

At the very back of the store they have furniture. Most of the good stuff is always gone. There was a set of five chairs with mustard back and seats and are super sturdy. Which is great due to someone is about to fall through the current chairs we have. Also there was this great knitting machine that was from Sheridan College's Sewing room. The knitting machine is still in the original box and it seems all of the pieces are still there. The only thing that was missing is the manual which I have since purchased on eBay. I can't wait to get going and figure out how to use the thing. If Jasmine wasn't there to talk me into it. I probably would not have bought the knitting machine it was way out of my thrifting budget. Actually it was way out of any budget. Thank goodness for birthday money.

Jas and her room mate Dave found a couch and awesome chair from the 70's which they purchased for half off as long as we took them that day and they were closing in under an hour. Some quick thinking led me to leave Otis at the store with Jas and Dave while I ran home and pick up our friends car. Two trips to my house to get the knitting machine and the chairs home. Then we had to figure out how to get the couch to Jas's house. I drove the car with the chair to her house she met me there with Otis in his stroller. Otis and I ran to the health food store while Jas and Dave carried the couch two blocks from the store to their house. It was a sight to be seen.

Sounds like we had a full day of adventure doesn't it? And yet there is more. My Dave got home from work and there was 9 chairs in our apartment and a knitting machine set up on the kitchen table. By this point I was pretty tired and our house was still a disaster.

I sucked it up and decided to start to bring the extra chairs to the basement. Who knows when we might need them. While scanning the basement for a place to put the chairs I decided to put them beside our old couch. there is a lot of insulation in that area. I was about kick the insulation beside the couch out if the way. As I had my foot cocked to kick I realized the shape on the floor wasn't insulation but Q-Bert my missing cat of three months. I dropped the chairs I was carrying and ran upstairs. It took me about five minute of hyperventilating to get the story out to Dave. Dave went down and made sure because the head was berried and at this point I wasn't sure anymore.

It was Q-Bert he had been lying there somewhat in the open for the last three months or so. Dave and I had checked that exact place many times since he had went missing. From what we could figure he must have been sick and went there to die.

Lucky for us my dad and grandparents came to visit the next day and dealt with the body for us. I was sad when I found him but more spooked and freaked about having to get the body out of the basement. I wanted to stand on a chair as if there was a mouse on the floor in our apartment. My love affair with the basement has been put on hold for the time being. I have been spending some time down there building two filing cabinets. I really wanted to be able to get them finished soon. I hope I can work up the courage to get back down there some time soon.

Good Bye again,

Q-Bert J. Donkey Kong the 3rd of the North Hampton Donkey Kong's

We miss you.

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures right now. Taken with the addition of my new flash, another great birthday gift.
