The Patch 2011 Edition - Farm #1

Otis, Marlo and I met up with some others at the pumpkin patch last week.  Farmers have struggled this year with the yeild of their produce.  Pumkins were no different.

We had a lot of fun playing on the farm and visiting with all our friends and the animals on the farm.  It was far to cold and windy however to get some good babes and pumpkin photos.  Hopefully we manage to make it out this weekend before Halloween to get some great pictures and a few more pumpkins.

Pumpkins were slim pickings at this farm.  There may have been better ones out in the field but it was way to windy and cold to go out and have a peak.

Pumpkin Patch = PP 2008

I Love this witch. I have had a thing for them this Halloween. If I could afford it there would be several beautiful witches residing here. So instead I will have to settle for this picture.

So we have been to the PP twice this year and one more possible to come. We first went to a patch in Guelph. With Jazz, Charless and Coo Coo. It was a really nice farm.

We didn't get any pumpkins as the price was highway robbery. You paid by the weight. a decent size would cost over $15. Who pays $15 for a pumpkin. We left empty handed and a little disappointed. Good news is we got some nice pictures

Dave had to go out to Elmira so he picked one up at a grocery store out there for $3. Dave also surprised Otis and I by taking us out to the farm we went to last year. They have added a straw jump Otis was in the straw for almost a half hour loving it.

We picked up two pumpkins and three baby pumpkins(gourds). The sun was out and the weather was beautiful. I love the PP. It is so hard to pick just one. I changed my mind a few times on which pumpkin I wanted.

I had to run out to get some jars for canning and picked up another for $2. I was thinking it might be fun to get one every time we went to the grocery store. I then decided against it as we go to the grocery store many times a week.

Pumpkins

Its that time of year again we went to the pumkin patch. We went to a new one we found over the summer. I called up a Friend Lisa and her daughter Emily. made sure there were batteries in the camera and off we went.

I Love this picture of the kids holding hands. You can only tell they are holding hands by the shadow.

At first all he cared about was walking through the farmer fields. Once he realised he could climb on them it was all good.

I could not for the life of me get him to look at the camera.

It was so windy out Otis' hair was everywhere.

Pushing the wagon was a must. He really wanted to ride in it. We had already got in trouble for walking in the feild I didn't want to push it. The wagons did say no riders.

Here's our haul. Oh and we got a fresh baked Apple Crumble too.

Pumpkin Day

Pumpkin Song

I'm a little pumpkin
Orange and round.
Here is my stem,
There is the ground.
When I get all cut up,
Don't you shout!
Just open me up
And scoop me out!

We finally made it. I have never been to a pumpkin patch to pick my own pumpkin before and I wanted to be able to go this year. It was Dave's last day of vacation and I am sure he didn't want to spend it at a pumpkin farm. We packed up Otis and off we went. I was bursting with excitement.

On the way there Dave asked me what the obsession with pumpkins is about. I couldn't give him an answer. I've thought about it a bit and I just love pumpkins. We had a lot of them at our wedding. The seating cards for the guest, The table numbers were pumpkins and I had my dad grow pumpkins in his garden to be placed around the barn. It was beautiful.

I guess pumpkins are a sign that my favorite time of year is here. The day after labour day I had Otis in his little pumpkin hat. He has worn it everytime we have gone out since then.

Well enough about my pumpkin obsession, let talk about the farm. We went to a family farm about a ten minute drive from our place. It was great, they had many animals for the the kids to look at, a corn maze, a large feild where you could pick your own, a play ground for kids to play on and don't forget the huge selection of pumpkins.

In the end I only left with two pumpkins. You just wait til I have an outside space to put them. Right now our two little pumpkins are sitting on the window sill looking very bright and orange. One of the pumpkins is for eating. I am going to make Otis some puree and keep some to try pumpkin smoothies or bread. I will have to see how much puree I get. MMMMMM and pumkin seeds I almost forgot.
