Pillow Fight

I forgot to post about this.  A few weeks back Otis and I attended an event at Waterloo town square.  There was an outdoor Pillow fight.  We took a bus uptown, which was almost as exciting as the pillow fight.  Every time the bus stopped.  Otis would ask.  "Is this our stop?"

The ride was shorter then expected.   We had time to stop for Hot Chocolate at the Princess Cafe and do a little window shopping at Bon Mot Shop.

The pillow fight was ridiculous to say the least.  Otis watched for a while and seemed ready to leave.  He then found a couple of little girls that would pillow fight with him and it was all over.  we were there for another half hour while he swung his pillow.

End of an Era - Gen X

I found out some sad news today.  Gen X will be closing it doors.  Otis' very first outing once he arrived home from the Hospital was to Gen X.    There will be a void left in many peoples lives with you gone.

I want to welcome any new readers today from Bailey's Local Foods.    I Began this Blog four and a half years ago while I was pregnant with my son as a way for family to keep in touch with our day to day.  It has evolved into a place with a little bit of everything about our family.

Caprese Salad

Fiore di Latte cheese is one of my new favorite finds from Bailey's Local Foods.  The distributor for this cheese is in Ingersoll called Local Dairy.  I discovered last night while preparing this delicious salad that it is manufactured on Mulock Street in Toronto.  Our last place in Toronto was on Mulock and there is an amazing cheese factory kiddie corner from our house.  We lived on a strange street.  It was where industry met residential.  From what we could gather our street was where the labourers from all the different slaughter houses in the area used to live. The slaughter houses are no longer there.  They have been gone for many years.  The whole area has been built up.  It was just beginning when we left.  We went by there the last time we were in the city.  It is amazing how many homes there are now.

Caprese Salad
2 tomatos sliced
1 ball fresh mozzarella sliced
5 large basil leaves sliced
Drizzle olive oil
Drizzle balsamic vinegar
Granulated garlic
salt & pepper to taste.

Arrange the slices of tomato and cheese.
place slices of basil through out the plate.
drizzle both olive oil and vinegar.
shake on garlic, salt and pepper.

Auction Day

When we arrived to our street on Wednesday there were more cars then I have ever seen.  A house up the street was auctioned off two days ago.  The women has moved to a nursing home but she had lived there for almost 60 years.  You could only imagine some of the stuff she owned considering the house wasn't that big.  There had been a sign on the lawn for almost a month. When we got to the house I realized not only is the house up for auction but the contents were too.  I was so excited and disappointed all at the same time.  Excited because I needed to get in on this action and disappointed because I had missed so much.  Dave let me off at the house so I could see what was going on.  As I walk up Otis came running at me.  He was there with Nona who had been  there the whole time.  She had already got a box of Tupperware for me.  I had missed out on the Pyrex though.

I have only been to one other auction before when I was in high school and it was a lot of fun.  This one went way quicker.  I really couldn't wrap my brain around it fast enough.  The only thing I missed out on was this green cabinet that went for $2.00.  It would have been perfect for the deck to hold outdoor stuff.  We need some more storage out there.  I am glad I can give her stuff a good home.

Found

Otis and I have been going for walks after dinner. We went down a Street/Lane I had never been down before. It is a street over from us towards the express way. The lane is the entrance to the back yards of the houses on our street. The yards are huge and beautiful.

At the end of the lane is the entrance to a small piece of forest. Otis loves it he asks to go play in the forest. I discovered there is a pear tree right at the edge. I love pears right from the tree. My neighbour growing up had a pear tree. My favorite time to eat a pear is when it is so ripe you can barely hold onto it. They are so juicy, it just rolls down your chin. Mmmmm. I can't wait to pick some.

There were a few other discoveries. Wild Rhubarb and Raspberries. There were only a few raspberry bushes. The raspberries were the sweetest I have ever tasted. I couldn't pick them quick enough. Otis was just eating them up.

A few days ago I spotted raspberries at the edge of a wooded area on the way home from picking Otis up from Rose's. Otis left this morning to go to Nonna's so I drove out to pick a bunch. Above is my found fruit. They are so good. I didn't quite dress to be climbing in the bush so I only picked on basket. I might head out in a few days an pick some more.

Bailey's Grand Opening

I was able to attend Bailey's Grand Opening on Friday. I don't usually get to pick up my order until later in the day. I left work early to miss some of the weekend traffic heading towards Niagara.

It was amazing to see how many people were there. By the time I get there on Friday's there are only a few orders left to be picked up.

There were many quest speakers in attendance too. It was a nice start to my weekend. This friday I will be picking up a flat of Strawberries. MMMMM MMM MMM

Bailey's Local Foods

I recently joined a food buying club. Called Baileys Local Foods. It is in it's second Season.

There is an one time fee of $20 to join plus the cost of your food order. All of the ordering is done online which is very convenient. It runs weekly from the end of may until October and monthly after that.

This week will be our third pick up. The pick location is the Church of all churches. I have now been to this church many times for different social/shopping events. Stitch & Kitch, rummage sales and now weekly for groceries. This church also houses a soup kitchen and shelter for those in need. Talk about using a building to its fullest.

There will be more to choose from as the growing season continues. This past friday Dave, Otis and I went to pick up our order. We then went home and had a wonderful local dinner. Garlic Sausage and Baby Portabellos on the grill. Otis helped me cut up the Red fingerling potatoes we roasted.

We also bought a great loaf of cheddar cheese bread. Any time he has a piece he calls it "local bread not cheese bread" it is pretty amazing that this is the word he picked up on.

This morning I also placed my order fo next week. They have added Deli Meat which is from 20KM away. The whole experience so far has been exciting.

Derby

This past weekend we went to see some friends in the season opener of the Tri-City roller girls.



It was a whole lot of fun and it allowed us the opportunity to bring Oats and Curtis out for some fun and running around.



It also gave me a chance to use the new lens for the camera. I call it new but really it has bee around since Christmas.
